Moving existing emails from your old provider

Bring your old messages with you when you move your email to us.

Before anything changes

Moving email providers does not automatically bring your old messages with you. Every plan includes a free migration of one website and its email, so the easiest route is to let us handle it. Contact us before making any DNS or nameserver changes so nothing is lost in the switch.

How we move your mail

  1. 1Tell us where your email is hosted now, and roughly how many mailboxes and how much mail you have.
  2. 2We set the new mailboxes up first, usually with the same password as the old ones, so the copy can start.
  3. 3We point our migration tool at your old mail server and it copies your messages and folders across. A large mailbox can take several hours.
  4. 4You check everything in webmail or your email app, then the old service can be closed.
  5. 5Keep your old account active until we confirm the move is complete, do not cancel it early.

Good to know

  • Gmail and personal Outlook.com mailboxes can be copied automatically, but both need a little preparation first, ask us and we will talk you through it.
  • Microsoft 365 and other business accounts cannot be copied by the automatic tool, we arrange those another way.
  • Websites, databases and email can all be moved in one go, you do not need to organise them separately.
  • Messages stored only in an old app's local folders are not on any server, export them first using that app's export option.
  • If both old and new accounts are set up in the same email app with IMAP, you can often drag folders across yourself. Do it on a computer, not a phone, and allow time.
