Domains
Moving your domain to Turner Digital Hosting
Prepare for a domain transfer without overlooking your existing website or email.
Transfer or nameserver change?
A domain transfer changes the company managing your domain registration and renewal. A nameserver change changes where its DNS is managed. You can keep your current registrar and point your domain to our nameservers, a registration transfer is not required just to host your website with us.
Prepare your transfer
- 1Contact us with your domain name, current registrar and expiry date before starting a transfer. Do not cancel your existing hosting or email yet.
- 2Check that you can sign in to your registrar account and access the domain contact email address.
- 3Tell us where your website and email are hosted, including whether you use Microsoft 365 or another email provider. Keep a record of the current DNS settings.
- 4Ask us for the transfer instructions for your domain extension. Some domains use an authorisation code and transfer lock, while UK domains may use an IPS tag. Use only the details we supply, do not guess a tag or send a transfer code through a public form.
- 5Complete any transfer approvals requested by your registrar. Keep the existing services running while we arrange the website and email move.
- 6Once we confirm the move is ready, check your website and test sending and receiving email before closing services with the old provider.
Avoid disruption
- Transfer requirements and timing depend on the domain extension and current registrar. A recently registered or transferred domain may be subject to a transfer lock.
- Moving the registration does not automatically move your website files or old emails.
- Discuss an approaching expiry date with us before initiating a transfer.
- If you only need to change nameservers, make sure your website and all required DNS records are ready with us first.
