Setting up email in Thunderbird
Connect your Turner Digital mailbox to Thunderbird using secure IMAP and SMTP settings.
Add your mailbox
- 1Open Thunderbird and choose the option to add an existing email account. In an existing installation, look under Account Settings, Account Actions, Add Mail Account. Menu names can vary by version.
- 2Enter your display name, full email address and mailbox password, then let Thunderbird look for the settings.
- 3Choose Manual configuration if the settings are not found or do not match the details below.
- 4Select IMAP for incoming mail. Enter the host names below, the ports below and SSL/TLS connection security. Use your full email address as the username for both servers.
- 5Choose Normal password authentication where Thunderbird asks for an authentication method. Check the settings, then use Re-test if shown and save or finish the account setup.
- 6Send a test message to another address you can access and reply from that address to check both directions.

Good to know
- Your username is always your full email address, not just the part before the @.
- You can use either host name, the branded one works for every mailbox we host, and your own domain's works when your domain uses our nameservers.
- Replace yourdomain.co.uk with your own domain name, for example if your domain is acme.co.uk, use imap.acme.co.uk and smtp.acme.co.uk.
- If your own domain's host name shows a certificate warning, use the branded host name and tell us, we'll get the certificate sorted.
- Passwords are case sensitive, type them exactly as provided.
- If setup fails, double check the spelling, the port numbers and that SSL is switched on.
- Thunderbird also accepts port 587 with STARTTLS for outgoing mail if you prefer it.
- Do not accept an unexpected certificate warning to finish setup. Check the host name and ask us for help.
- Adding an IMAP account does not import messages saved only in another app's local folders. Keep a backup before removing the old app.
